KILLEN, ALABAMA
Located between Rogersville and Florence, Killen is where some of the nicest homes in the are reside. It is part of Lauderdale County and the Shoals area. The band members of the group known as Drive-by Truckers and former NFL players Patrick Hape and Harlon Junius Hill all lived in Killen at one point in their lives.
History of Killen
The territory known as Killen today was first settled in the early 1800s. At this time, the town was called Masonville. This early community consisted of little more than a grocer/post office combined and a handful of homes. However, when the Muscle Shoals Canal was completed in 1890, the area exploded with growth.
In around 1895, a man by the name of James Killen built a large general store and a separate post office in Masonville and applied to change the town's name. At this time, the town was renamed Killen. Killen was incorporated in 1957, at which time a police department was established as well. Today, Killen is a charming little community with several small businesses, churches, schools and lovely homes.
Parks and recreation
The main park located in Killen is Killen Park. Killen Park has tennis courts, a playground, soccer fields, baseball/softball fields and Locke Six, a boat ramp located behind the park.
Turtle Point Golf and Country Club has many luxurious amenities including a pool, golf course, tennis courts and dining options for poolside and restaurant dining.
EVents
Killen Time Adventure Park is a locally-owned fun attraction located in Killen. This park has mini golf, laser tag, arcade games and an adorable ice cream shop with snacks and refreshments.
Arx Mortis Haunted Attraction is a top-rated haunted house that is locally owned and directly next to Killen Time Adventure Park.
Killen Time Escape is locally owned alongside the other two attractions listed above. It’s an escape room with several different storylines and themes to choose from. These are challenging but a great way to spend time with family and friends.

This event is held every year in August. During this event, you can enjoy such festivities as a thrilling parade, live music, Native American demonstrations, food vendors, a classic car show and a fireworks display.
